South Korea was reclassified as a developed market in 2010 by industry consultants IMS Health, and ranked 15th among global pharmaceutical powers (2010). In Korea, both Western and Asian medicines are offered at over 80,000 healthcare centers throughout the country, and the market is highly fragmented, with close to 300 pharmaceutical companies and approximately 500 wholesalers.

As I’m writing this in Hanoi, in the business center of my local hotel, I’m grateful for the various timesaving tools that have made my work easier, and more efficient, with regard to time spent on tasks such as news, trend and data review. While I’ve recently opted out of a couple of social media platforms (FaceBook and LinkedIn), I have made extensive use of other apps, especially on my phone, which I’d like to introduce to you today.

In March of 2011, at the time of this writing, the biggest story in this region is obviously the combined earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster brewing in Japan. More than 11,000 bodies have been recovered, but officials say the final death toll is expected to exceed 18,000. Hundreds of thousands of people remain homeless, their homes and livelihoods destroyed. Damage could amount to US$310 billion — the most expensive natural disaster on record.

Intellectual Ventures, based in Bellevue, Washington, seeks jury trials and unspecified damages in three lawsuits, according to papers filed in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware.
