Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoortied the knot here on Tuesday in a low-key ceremony after a courtship of five years.The couple were married by a registrar in the presence of family and friends at their house, followed by a formal reception at the Taj Colaba Hotel this evening.Khan and Kapoor came out of the house to greet fans and the media after the ceremony, smiling and waving to onlookers
This is the most high-profile wedding in the Indian film industry since Abhishek Bachchan married Aishwarya Rai in April 2007.According to registrar, Surekha Lokhare, parents of both Kapoor and Khan were present at the marriage that took place in the latter's bungalow.
"From Saif Ali Khan's side, his mother, Sharmila Tagore, was present as a witness, and from Kareena's side, both her parents, Randhir Kapoor and Babita, were present," said Lokhare.Media reports said Khan's ancestral property in Pataudi in Haryana is also being spruced up for a post-wedding party.
She also informed that both got married as per the Special Marriage Act of 1954."They got married as per the 1954, Special MarriageAct for which they had submitted an application a month ago. They had taken a date and their marriage took place today. Both were very happy," said Lokhare.
Khan, 42, and Kapoor, 32, are one of Bollywood's most high-profile couples, appearing in several movies and advertisements together. They were last seen together on screen in Khan's home production "Agent Vinod" in March this year.Khan was earlier married to actress Amrita Singh and has two children with her. This is Kapoor's first marriage.
Khan parted ways with his first wife in 2004 and was also in a relationship with Italian model Rosa Catalano before he met Kapoor. Kareena was in a three-year long relationship with actor Shahid Kapur, which ended in 2007.Khan is the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore. Kapoor comes from a family of actors and is the granddaughter of acclaimed actor Raj Kapoor.
A mehendi and sangeet ceremony (song and dance party) was held before the wedding and was attended by Bollywood celebrities such as Karan Johar, Neetu Singh, and Malaika Arora. A second reception is to be held in New Delhi on October 18. (ANI)
